I seem to be drawn to movies that have something to do with Unity.
It's like a theme (besides the obvious character driven aspects that I believe drives most of my favorite stories, rather than the plot...ie: firefly.)

Newsies: Bunch o' punk newsie kids banding together, seizing the day and showing the world that the Man will never push them over nor keep them down.

Swing Kids: with its emphasis on not losing who you really are, it's one of those movies where you come out saying, I would've stood beside them.

Accepted: If I could start my own college, it would be EXACTLY like that.

That's just the few that I can remember of my collection at home. I watched Saving Private Ryan yesterday, but that's a brotherhood of a different sort, doesn't really fall in line with the ones I'm talking about.

The newest of which, is "Hooligans" (Green Street Hooligans) with Elijah Wood and Charlie Hunnam, and independent film I found at Target while doing my usual browsing.

On a side note, SuperTarget is no different from a regular Target, so I'm kinda curious as to "What's the point?!"; I mean, give me something more to look forward to rather than a pizzaria with a limited menu.

Anyway, Hooligans is about Matt Buckner, a Yank (American) who goes to London after being kicked out of Harvard on false charges of him carrying drugs. Here he runs into Pete Durnam, the Top Boy of the Firm (Gang) called Green Street Elite (GSE) and belong to the football (soccer) team of West Ham United. Pete teaches Matt the importance of "Standing your Ground" even when the odds are against you, and that there's a time when you have to fight, and a time when you have to walk away.

"It isn't knowing that your friends have your back. It's knowing that you have your friends' back."

Beyond all that, this movie has the most Head-butting in a Film that I think I've ever seen. (no, that's not a world cup joke)

We've all seen that Futbol (spelled to help all you Yanks understand the difference between theirs and our pansy game of the same name...NEVER CALL IT SOCCER!!) fans are the most hardcore out there. That's what this movie follows, strangely, and not the game itself. In fact, Futbol has all of 10 minutes of play time out of it's 109 total.

What you get, instead, is the hard hitting, violent, and gritty world of Opposing Firms (fans of such-and-such team) going head to head either before or after a match. It's about standing together, and not backing down. Finding that group of friends, and sticking by them no matter what. Possibly, it's family.

"It's about reputation...more than anything."
