I sent an email to an old friend, but I believe others could benefit from some of these words as well.  (If I'm allowed to say so myself):

To say that God meant for you to go down this path would be ridiculous on anybody's part.

To say that he may be trying to teach you a lesson because of the path you chose...now that may be closer to home.

I believe that anything that takes you away from the Love anyone has for Christ, and blocks you from feeling the Love he has for you just isn't the right direction. He gives us passions and talents and gifts not so that we can aimlessly dream, or think about what could've been, but so that we can use them for him should we choose to leave our own selfishness behind and trust in him. To follow him with all our heart so that we can be a light, and we can love what we do and...in turn...be fully happy.

Continue seeking him. When you don't have the time for that; then keep your heart and mind open. Listen for his voice. Just try and trust in him and find a peace and comfort that you should have. That's not to say things won't be difficult, and sometimes the path towards happiness is a lot tougher than we expect it to be, but climbing out of a hole never was supposed to be an easy ordeal. We dig ourselves deeper the more we ignore his advice.

What we're looking for is beyond anyone...could be anything...but all we may find is loneliness at the bottom. The farther we go, the longer it takes his voice to echo down towards us. It takes a lot to get the confidence to go back up, but if we really want it then we'll get there.
