I'm done.
I don't want to be that guy.
Things are going to be different now. No matter what happens in the end. It'll be different.

I suppose I should try and keep my credibility as a blogger, so I'll write of something a little more relevant, something that affects the world at large rather than just me. I'll allow myself to keep up with current events just this once. Of course, I'm talking about our 44th President, Barack Hussain Obama.

I should begin by mentioning that I don't care too much for politics. I don't follow it, and I believe that a person should worry about their own dreams and admirations rather than bicker about the issues of our nation and it's leaders. That said, it's no surprise that this is the first inauguration of a president that I've ever witnessed, and to tell you the truth I thought it was amazing.

Maybe not so much him taking the Oath or anything, that was pretty much the same as it's always been, but more so the sheer amount of attention it garnered from millions of people throughout the WORLD; now that was nothing short of spectacular.

As for myself, I watched the inauguration in a tiny room with three other co-workers. They, unlike me, were more involved with what was going on and excited about this new chapter for America. It's a strange feeling watching the new president make his speech, and all the while those around you are into it as if it were the local pastor preaching of miracles and the power of God.

(Speaking of Pastors, let me just say real quickly that I hated that opening benediction. You're telling me that THAT was the best they could find?!)

To tell you the truth, I think the speech overall was a good one. I'm not going to lie, if this guy is as adamant about half the things he says he wants to change, then I have no problem supporting him. He said some really smart things yesterday, and in the end I can't say I would rather have anyone else in office.

Yet there's something that Obama said that I don't think a lot of people really understand. In the end it's about us making the right decisions, not about what he does in office, that's going to make the difference. It goes back to what I mentioned earlier. When I get back from Iraq, and eventually out of the Navy, I'm still not going to care about politics any more than when I was in High School. To me, I'm not relying on someone else to fix the country or even the problems that affect me, but instead I'm going to focus on doing my part to make the world a better place as well as making my life a purposeful one.

I don't think others understand that. That it's not about who we have in office that makes the difference, but in the end it's always been about what WE do and how we live OUR lives. There are those people that complained and complained about the nation's situation, and now that we have a new president they believe that things will automatically get better; yet they won't change the way they handle their own lives, and four years down the road it's going to be the same old thing for them, and they'll go back to complaining and talking about how to fix the country.

The ironic thing about it, is that Barack DOES understand, and that's why I feel ok with him. Now that he's in office though, I hope that people will begin to realize that it was their own screwed up decisions that got them in this mess, and maybe they'll actually do something about it.

As for me, I'm going to go back to worrying about my own life and what I can do as a follower of Christ to make the world a better place. Good luck to Mr. Obama in the future, he has a lot of hype to live up to.
